Proverbs 7:7-9, “And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding, Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:”
To get wisdom and understanding about sin we must pay attention to God’s Word, we must learn lessons from life, and we must make decisions in advance of the moment. No matter how competent you feel yourself to be. No matter now mature you are in your faith. No matter how much you have been used in the past for the glory of God’s kingdom, you are just one moment away from disaster. Believe Paul when he says, “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall” (1 Corinthians 10:12). He also said, “I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway” (1 Corinthians 9:27).
Remember, the options of the moment always look good, but they rarely are good. The Psalmist said in 119:110, “The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from Thy precepts.” How did he not stray from God’s Word? Because of Psalm 119:106, “I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep Thy righteous judgments.” Keep reading and you will see this point reinforced. “Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart. I have inclined mine heart to perform Thy statutes alway, even unto the end” (Psalm 119:111-112).
