A Psalm for Saturday, July 11th, 2026

Hidden Treasure

Psalm 119:57-64, “Thou art my portion, O LORD: I have said that I would keep Thy words. I intreated Thy favor with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to Thy word. I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto Thy testimonies. I made haste, and delayed not to keep Thy commandments. The bands of the wicked have robbed me: but I have not forgotten Thy law. At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto Thee because of Thy righteous judgments. I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts. The earth, O LORD, is full of thy mercy: teach me thy statutes.”

The psalmist anchors his soul not in shifting circumstances but in God Himself. When trials press and resources dwindle, he chooses God as his eternal inheritance. This is satisfaction that is rooted in the Lord. The psalmist’s response to God’s grace is intentional obedience. He rises at midnight to give thanks, seeking the Lord’s steadfast love rather than mere comfort. He refuses bitterness toward lawbreakers, instead remembering God’s righteous ordinances. True joy in God produces a steady rhythm of prayer, praise, and moral clarity. When heaven becomes your portion, earthly loss loses its sting. You do not obey to earn a place. You obey from a place that is already secure in Christ.

Act today: Write “The Lord is my portion” where you will see it this morning. At lunch, spend five minutes thanking God for one specific way He has been your supply when earthly resources fell short.
