A Psalm for Saturday, May 9, 2026

A Mother’s Day Meditation

Psalm 131, “A Song of degrees of David. LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me. Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child. Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever.”

Rest in the Lord, Mom.

Like David, you can say, “I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother.” A weaned child is not frantic for milk. He leans on love itself. In the same way, God invites you to lean back into His faithful arms, exchanging the clamor of duties for the hush of trust. Your daily nurturing echoes His own care: patient, close, life-giving. Let today’s thanks from family lift your gaze higher, to the Father who rejoices over every unseen sacrifice and promises that “hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever” (v. 3).

Act now: Take ten quiet minutes—phone silenced—to breathe, pray Psalm 131 aloud, and entrust each child (or spiritual child) to the Lord’s keeping.
