The Hatred of Evil

Proverbs 8:13, “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.”

Reverence for God is not a quiet emotion but is an active hostility toward what destroys His good design. You cannot claim to love God while tolerating the things He detests. Pride lifts the self. Arrogance crushes the neighbor. Crooked speech twists reality. Christ modeled perfect hatred of sin, weeping over brokenness while refusing to compromise with it. In us, this holy hatred grows as the Spirit renews our affections. We stop laughing at what grieves the Lord. We stop excusing the pride we hide behind success. The New Covenant writes God’s loathing for sin into our conscience. When your heart beats with His, you will walk away from gossip, refuse shortcuts, and reject the arrogance of self-rule. Clean hands and a pure heart are not optional; they are the evidence of life in Christ. Guard your mouth. Kill your pride. Walk in humble righteousness.

Act today: Identify one proud or deceitful habit you have tolerated in yourself today. Confess it, ask God for grace to hate it, and take one step to remove it from your life.
