Loved and Disciplined

Proverbs 3:11-12, “My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of His correction: For whom the LORD loveth He correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.”

Human correction often breeds shame, but God’s discipline reveals His delight. We must never confuse suffering with punishment; Christ exhausted God’s wrath at the cross. Yet the Father still trains His children through trials, loss, and gentle rebuke to conform us to Jesus’ image.

Dislike correction is proof we doubt God’s goodness. But the Spirit renews our minds to see hardship as a refining fire, not a rejection. Hebrews 12:6 echoes this truth: God disciplines those He adopts. Every hardship under His hand is purposeful, pruning dead branches so we bear more lasting fruit. When you feel the weight of rebuke, remember: a loving Father never abandons His children to drift. He corrects because He claims you. Stand firm, knowing the cross secures your standing while the Spirit secures your growth.

Act today: Recall one recent difficulty or correction. Write a prayer thanking God that He loves you enough to guide you and ask the Spirit to reveal what you should learn.
