Proverbs 7:8, “Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,” … Proverbs 6:27-28, “Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?”
This week we have been working to gain wisdom about temptation from Proverbs 7, and so far, we have examined three reasons why we yield to temptation. We yield to temptation because #1—We neglect God’s Word, #2—We do not learn lessons from life, and #3—We fail to make wise choices in advance. The fourth reason is today’s devotional thought. We yield to temptation when we live on the edge.
That is evident from the two texts for today. If you choose to be at the wrong place at the wrong time (often with the wrong people), the inevitable bad end result should not come as some great surprise. You have heard it asked before (maybe even from your own mouth), “How did this happen? How did I end up here?” It was not by accident, but the result of poor, foolish, wrong decision making. Living on the edge you cannot keep yourself from falling. Live on the edge and you will easily and routinely yield to temptation.
