Cling to Mercy and Truth

Proverbs 3:3-4, “Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.”

Mercy (“steadfast love”—hesed) and truth are the covenant glue to God’s treatment of His people. Solomon says to bind them around your neck and write them on your heart. The point of the external reminders and internal engravings is to produce consistent character. The payoff is favor with both God and neighbor because lives drenched in loyal kindness smell like Jesus. If you’re crafty but unkind, the world feels your sharp edges. If you’re sincere but unreliable, it feels your empty promises. Mercy and truth, love and faithfulness, put together they form the yoke that keeps relationships plowing straight.

Act today: Choose one relationship where either warmth (mercy and love) or consistency (truth and faithfulness) has slipped. Take one concrete step, an apology, a calendar reminder, a meal, to restore both cords.
