Legacy of Listening

Proverbs 4:1-4, “Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.”

Wisdom is not discovered in isolation. Wisdom is learned, and, in a sense, handed down. Solomon shares what his father David taught him, truth received, cherished, and protected like life itself. Let your heart keep these sound words. Keep God’s commandments and live. God’s people thrive when generations refuse to discard what prior believers painstakingly learned and what Scripture clearly declares. I am blessed to lead a church that was planted 95 years ago, in 1931. We stand on the shoulders of the faithful men and women who have gone on before us. Our spiritual ancestors passed

down the gospel, and we are to guard it by staying anchored in Scripture, moving forward in faith. Under the New Covenant, the Holy Spirit writes God’s truth on our hearts, so obedience flows not from dread but from adopted belonging. When we keep His words, we do not merely survive, we live as those marked by eternal purpose. Every generation must choose, will we hoard convenience, or will we pass down joyful, reverent faithfulness? This church will continue to advance as parents, mentors, and younger believers treat Scripture as living water. The same is true for your church.

Act today: Call or meet an older believer. Ask them to share one biblical truth that shaped their life. Listen, write it down, and commit to passing that truth to someone else this week.
