Guard the Inner Spring
Proverbs 4:20-23, “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
The heart is the control center of life. What we allow into it eventually flows out into our words, choices, and relationships. Solomon urges us to treat God’s words like treasure. Keep them always before our eyes and guard them inside the heart. This is not mere rule-keeping but is protecting the source of everything we do.
Jesus is the true source of life. He said that out of the heart come evil thoughts, but He also promised to give us a new heart. The Holy Spirit takes God’s truth and writes it deep inside us so that our inner life becomes clean and strong. A neglected heart becomes bitter or anxious. A guarded heart becomes a spring of peace, even when circumstances are hard. Christ died and rose so that our hearts could be made new and kept safe in Him. Vigilance is not fear, it is love responding to the One who gave everything for us.
Act today: Sit quietly for five minutes. Ask the Lord to show you what is currently filling your heart. Write down one truth from Scripture you will repeat to yourself three times today to guard your inner spring.
