John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Jesus said, “MY peace I give unto you.” Our God is the only source of genuine peace. Nearly all of Paul’s letters begin with some variation of the phrase “Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ” Romans 1:7b. God the Father and God the Son are the source of peace, while God the Holy Spirit imparts that peace to believers. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law” Galatians 5:22.

This is the peace of God which is the natural result of being at peace with God. That objective reality provides for the subjective experience of peace; a sense of goodness, trust, contentment, confidence, and well-being regardless of the situation, whatever the circumstances might be. This is what Paul means when he says, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:7.

Peace is connected to truth and to trusting that truth. God the Son trusted the will of God the Father and finished the work that He was given to do, and “for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of God,” Hebrews 12:2. That is trust and confidence in the will of God. Nothing you do to me is outside My Father’s will. That was true for Jesus. That is true for all those who have been made at peace with God. My confidence is in my God. The peace that passes all human understanding is rooted in the one true deity.

I’m not talking about mind games, mind manipulations, self-fulfilling prophecy techniques, or psychological gymnastics. “PEACE I leave with you, MY PEACE I give unto you: NOT as the world giveth, give I unto you.”
