Fire in the Bosom

Proverbs 6:27-29, “Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? So he that goeth in to his neighbor’s wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.”

Some laws of nature cannot be negotiated. Fire burns. Coals scorch. Sexual sin works the same way. You cannot play with it and expect to remain clean. The heat transfers and the damage follows. God’s warning is not meant to simply cause shame. Sin brings its own shame, but Holy Spirit borne conviction leads to salvation. Wisdom warns us of sexual sin’s certain destruction. The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Profane your body and you invite destructive consequences on your own head. Jesus came to rescue those trapped by sin’s fire. Through the cross, He bore the penalty so repentant hearts could be cleansed, but that involves turning away from the flame. The Spirit empowers believers to walk through the fire without being consumed. Fleeing sexual sin is not weakness but wisdom. Keep your heart and hands clean, your steps straight, and your conscience clear. Fire never cools down for the sake of the careless. Respect God’s design and let His boundaries become your protection.

Act today: Name one situation where you have been flirting with compromise. Step away immediately, confess it to God, and replace the moment with prayer and accountability today.
