Envy is Unhealthy
Proverbs 3:31-32, “Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.”
Envy glamorizes the violent, the power-players who “get ahead” by any means necessary. Yet God says the devious are an abomination while the upright are His intimate friends. Envy (jealous comparison and what flows from that) rots the bones, it corrodes contentment from the inside. Uprightness, by contrast, enjoys confidential access to the Creator. Friendship with God eclipses any earthly status the oppressor flaunts. So refuse the clickbait of swagger. Align with the gentle King whose victory came by a cross, not coercion, and never make the false assumption that the humble gentleness and meekness of the Lord means weakness. Oppressors are not defeated through acquiescence. Be steadfastly committed to the Word of God and the God of the Word. Be joyfully obedient to Scripture, and trust our just God with the results.
Act today: When social media parades someone you’re tempted to envy, stop and pray for their good. Then thank Jesus aloud for calling you His friend.
