The Perfect Word
Psalm 19:7–10, “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.”
The beginning of Psalm 19 tells us that the heavens declare the glory of God. Creation shows us that there is a Creator. Then David turns our attention from the heavens to the written Word of God.
God’s Word is perfect. It converts the soul.
God’s testimony is sure. It gives wisdom.
His statutes are right. They bring joy.
His commandment is pure. It gives light.
The Bible does more than give us information. It shows us who God is, reveals what is wrong within us, and teaches us how to walk rightly before Him.
That is why David valued Scripture more than gold and found it sweeter than honey. Gold may provide for earthly needs, but it cannot restore the soul. Honey may satisfy the taste, but it cannot give wisdom to the heart.
We should not come to God’s Word merely to complete a habit. We should come expecting God to speak, correct, encourage, and change us.
His Word is right even when our thinking is wrong. His Word is sure when everything around us feels uncertain. His Word is sweet because it leads us closer to Him.
Act Today: Read Psalm 19:7–10 slowly. Ask the LORD to show you whether you need restoration, wisdom, joy, light, or correction from His Word today.
