1 John 2:14, “I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known Him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.”

The way to defeat sin is to know and apply the Word of God (Psalm 119:9-11; Luke 4:1-13). There is no godliness apart from Biblical obedience. This is why memorizing and meditating on Scripture is the best way to build your recognition of and resistance to temptation and sin, as today’s verse makes clear. Spiritual strength and victory are the result of God’s Word abiding in you (John 15:1-10). The armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-17) is our protection against Satan’s attacks. Every piece of armor is a defensive mechanism, while the only offensive weapon is the sword of the Spirit, which is Scripture.
