Straight Steps and Honest Words

Proverbs 4:24-27, “Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.”

Wisdom touches every part of us, our mouth, our eyes, and our feet. Crooked speech leads to crooked living. Wandering eyes lead to wandering steps. Solomon calls for a life that moves in a straight line with God. Jesus walked this path perfectly. His words were always true. His eyes were fixed on the Father’s will. His feet never turned aside, even when the road led to the cross.

Because Christ was faithful for us, we are now invited to walk the same straight path by the power of the Holy Spirit. Every small choice matters. A cutting comment, a lingering look, a small compromise, these things slowly pull us off course, but when we keep our speech clean, our eyes fixed, and our steps deliberate, our way becomes sure. The Lord promises to make the path steady for those who refuse to swerve.

Act today:  Choose one area (speech, what you look at, or a habit) where you have been swerving. Make one concrete change today and ask the Holy Spirit to help you stay on the straight path.
