Confidence in the Lord

Proverbs 3:21-26, “My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.”

Solomon reminds his son that true wisdom does more than inform, it protects. When we keep God’s counsel before our eyes, we walk without stumbling, sleep without terror, and rest without dread. This isn’t a promise of trouble-free living, but a pledge of sovereign safety. God’s wisdom shields the vulnerable, steadies the anxious, and anchors the faithful in a broken world.

In Christ, we see perfect discretion and unwavering trust. Jesus walked without faltering, faced sudden terror with quiet obedience, and endured the ultimate calamity on our behalf. Now, through the Spirit, He writes God’s wisdom on our hearts, granting peace that outlasts panic. When sudden crises strike, the believer doesn’t collapse in fear but stands in confidence, knowing the Lord holds us and guards our steps. Reverence for God displaces dread of man, and discretion becomes dignity.

Act today:  Identify one area where fear or anxiety keeps you awake. Pray Psalm 4:8 aloud before bed, then write down one truth from Scripture that reminds you God’s wisdom guards your life. Sleep in that assurance.
