When I Consider Thy Heavens

Psalm 8:3–4, “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?”

David looked into the night sky and saw more than the moon and stars. He saw the work of God.

The heavens reminded him just how great the LORD is and just how small man is. The moon was in its place because God had ordained it. The stars shone because God had placed them there. All of creation testified that there is a Creator far greater than us.

Then David asked a humbling question: Why would such a great God be mindful of man?

We are not the center of creation. God is. Yet the God who made the heavens knows us, cares for us, and chooses to visit us with His mercy and attention.

The greatness of creation should make us humble, but it should never make us believe that we are forgotten. The One who holds the stars in their places is mindful of His children.

Sometimes we become so consumed with our problems that we forget to look up. We need to remember that our lives rest in the hands of the God who made the heavens.

He is greater than anything we are facing, and yet He is still mindful of us.

Act Today: Take a few moments to look at the sky. Praise the LORD for the greatness of His creation, and then thank Him that the God who made it all is mindful of you.
