The Veil Torn in Two
Matthew 27:50-51, “Jesus, when He had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;” (c.f. Hebrews 10:19-22)
When Jesus yielded up His spirit, the temple curtain—thick, solemn, forbidding—ripped from top to bottom. God Himself opened the way. Under the old covenant, only the high priest could enter the Most Holy Place, and that but once a year with sacrificial blood. Now, through the blood of the Lamb, every born-again believer enjoys immediate, continual access to the Father. Conservative Baptists hold dear the priesthood of all believers: Christ is our sole Mediator, the Scriptures our sufficient guide. Approach the throne today with reverent confidence. The torn veil proclaims that nothing—save unbelief—can bar you from God’s presence.
