Wake Up and Wear Christ!
Romans 13:11-14, “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”
While the world lulls us with endless scrolling and urgent trivia, today’s text rings an alarm clock powered by eternity. Every tick advances eternity’s sunrise. Spiritual drowsiness, coasting in routine, excusing pet sins, are all out of sync with the timetable of heaven. Spiritual drowsiness shows in moral, mental, and emotional compromises with sinful patterns. The cure is not frantic self-effort but fresh sight of the coming King. Hope galvanizes holiness. We lay aside sinful desires and patterns of living (v. 13) because such deeds belong to a darkness already doomed. Consider one habit that feels harmless yet dulls your zeal. Replace it this week with Scripture, prayer, or service. Not to earn daylight, but because the Light Himself is almost here.
Holiness is not primarily subtraction but addition. Today’s text pictures conversion as changing clothes. We have shed the threadbare garments of our sinful selves and have been clothed in the royal robes of Christ. Wearing Christ means trusting His righteousness, relying on His power, and imitating His character. This morning and each morning, let’s be committed to consciously “dress” in the gospe
1. Remember His perfect obedience credited to you.
2. Rejoice that His Spirit dwells within you.
3. Resolve to reflect His love in specific actions not vague ambitions.
Time is short. Strip off sin and put on the Lord Jesus.
