Use the Gift You Have
Romans 12:6-8, “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.”
Grace not only saves but grace also sustains us. This means we are graciously equipped for the work God has given us to do. Prophecy, service, teaching, encouragement, generosity, leadership, mercy, every one of these abilities are a stewardship from God. Let’s not be full of ourselves. We should also note Paul’s urgency. He commands us to prophesy in proportion to our faith, serve in our serving (service isn’t about us but others), give with generosity, lead with zeal, show mercy with cheerfulness. The repeated phrase “let us” pushes us from pew to practice.
My friend, comparison kills gratitude, as does neglect. A believer waiting for a bigger platform silently tells the Giver His choice is insufficient. Yet the smallest act done in Christ’s name carries eternal weight. A casserole for a grieving family, a well-prepared Sunday school lesson, a handwritten note to a discouraged individual or a grieving widow, these works, however unseen, proclaim the worth of Jesus. Therefore, let’s trust the Holy Spirit to reveal the spiritual gifts He has entrusted to us, and let’s ask Him to ignite a holy zeal within us to employ those gifts today and every day for the glory of Christ and the good of His church. Amen!
Serve with the gift(s) God has given. Our King deserves no idle servants.
