Esther 4:14, “For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
This verse captures an important moment for Queen Esther and her people. A decree threatened to destroy all Jews, and Esther, uniquely positioned in the king’s palace, was faced with a daunting choice. Mordecai, her cousin, issues a stern warning and a profound challenge. His warning reminds her that while God’s plan for His people will ultimately prevail – deliverance will “arise… from another place” – our individual faithfulness still matters. Our choices have consequences.
But the heart of the message, and the powerful question for each of us, is: “who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther was an orphan, placed in a position of immense power not by accident, but by divine design. God had strategically positioned her for a critical moment in history. This principle resonates deeply with our own lives. You are where you are today – with your unique gifts, experiences, and current circumstances – not by chance, but by divine appointment. God has prepared you and positioned you. He has a reason for placing you in your specific family, your community, your workplace, and your church.
The question for each of us is this: Will we have the courage and wisdom to recognize our “such a time as this“? Will we step into the divine purpose for which we have been uniquely placed? Let us reflect on where God has positioned us and ask Him to reveal the specific purpose He has for us in this season.
